The Golden Student Success Center involved the renovation of ENMU’s aging 1960s library into a modern student success center. It will be the main hub for resources and serve as a destination for social and intellectual interactions between students, faculty, and staff. The facility includes a café and a large presentation space. Additionally, an art gallery, strategically placed art walls, and an existing mural engage visitors and express the University’s strong fine arts tradition. The transformation required significant consolidation in order to free up space for collaboration and instruction while continuing to showcase ENMU’s unique special collections.
The new design transformed the concrete frame building into an open, daylit, and energy efficient space. To accomplish this within the existing tight floor-to-floor heights, an active chilled beam system was incorporated to maximize ceiling height, minimize distraction, reduce overhead ductwork by more than 50%, and improve system sustainability. The project was design and constructed to achieve LEED Gold certification.
