Originally built in 1960, the abandoned Sundowner was an auto oriented motor court situated on historic Route 66 in the heart of Albuquerque. In the mid 70’s, it was home to Bill Gates, Paul Allen and the beginnings of Microsoft.
This redevelopment project consisted of the conversion of the motel into a low-income housing complex focused on providing housing for persons with mental illness, physical disabilities, the elderly, veterans, and the homeless. The complex features 71 apartments, commercial space and a computer training center. The project achieved LEED Platinum certification as well as ENERGY STAR.
